Azerbaijan says Russia, Turkey knew about Karabakh operation


Azerbaijan said on Tuesday it informed Russia and Turkey about military activities it was carrying out in Karabakh as part of “anti-terrorist operations” in the Armenian-populated breakaway region.

“The command of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation and the leadership of the Turkish-Russian Monitoring Center were informed about the activities being carried out,” Azerbaijan’s defense ministry said.

Azerbaijan’s “operations’ in Nagorno-Karabakh come almost three years after it went to war with Armenia over the disputed mountainous region.

Russia’a foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow is in contacts on Karabakh including with Azerbaijan, Reuters reported citing Zakharova.
