SHARJAH, 14th September, 2023 (WAM) — Dr. Doria Sharaf El Din, Head of the Egyptian House of Representatives’ Committee on Culture, Media and Antiquities, said that national media is the most trusted source of information for the people.
People always look for their national media first and only go elsewhere if they are not satisfied, she added, urging the media to be honest, timely and detailed in their reporting, and address issues that matter to the public.
In her statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of her participation in the International Government Communication Forum, Sharaf El Din highlighted the forum’s importance, especially as it precedes the hosting of COP28 by some 80 days.
The UAE is set to host COP28 from 30th November to 12th December, 2023, at Expo City Dubai, with the participation of heads of state, prime ministers, opinion leaders, and delegations from more than 70 countries.
Sharaf El Din noted that COP28 will be the focus of the world’s media, and the Emirati media will play a major role in covering the event.
She described the term “sustainability,” as intense, noting that ordinary citizens might not understand its meaning and suggesting that a simplified term should be used.
She also urged media outlets to engage in climate issues and highlight violations that exacerbate climate change.
