ABU DHABI, 11th September, 2023 (WAM) — The Emirates News Agency (WAM) participated as a media partner in the Times Higher Education Forum, titled “Accelerating Action on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.”
The forum was today hosted by UAE University (UAEU) in Al Ain under the framework of the university's roadmap towards the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and beyond.
Through the partnership, WAM provided media coverage of the forum's events across various platforms and languages.
It also dedicated a special studio for conducting interviews highlighting the forum's significance and keeping its followers at the heart of the event, showcasing the latest developments, recommendations, and discussion sessions.
The forum aimed to exchange ideas and insights on how universities can help build a robust infrastructure that facilitates the achievement of Goal 6 of the SDGs. It also focuses on the role of research centres and new technologies in addressing water sanitation challenges and ensuring equitable distribution of water resources amid increasing efforts to prevent water scarcity.
Moreover, it explored the use of advanced technologies to provide tangible solutions for countries lacking these necessities and how the higher education sector can play a key role in responsible investments in line with the needs of communities.
Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, affirmed WAM's commitment to supporting national efforts to achieve the SDGs and ensure the success of COP28, which the UAE will host in November at Expo City Dubai.
He also highlighted the importance of the partnership to raise awareness among the community, especially concerning vital sectors, such as ensuring the availability of clean water and sustainable sewage services for all and their sustainable management, in line with the UN’s SDGs for 2030.
He then commended UAEU for launching its roadmap for COP28 to achieve national strategic directives and aspirations related to climate change.
The forum witnessed the participation of several universities, higher education institutions, scientific research centres and international organisations, including Times Higher Education and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), with the presence of leaders and experts from higher education, as well as researchers and media representatives in the country.
