ABU DHABI, 9th August, 2023 (WAM) — In an effort to foster meaningful narratives and promote awareness on violence and abuse, the Abu Dhabi Centre for Sheltering and Humanitarian Care – Ewaa, an affiliate of the Department of Community Development, has opened its “Our Stories” short story competition.
Through its social media platforms (@ewaa.abudhabi), Ewaa urged students and all community members within Abu Dhabi to submit short stories that shed light on the negative effects of violence and abuse as well as promote understanding of their impact, manifestations, and ways to combat them. This comes as part of the Centre’s role in preventing violence and abuse and raising awareness within society.
The competition welcomes entries that adhere to the criteria of composing a short story in Arabic or English spanning between 2,000 and 3,000 words and submitting it through the competition webpage by the end of September 2023.
Stories must be original and should not have been previously published, showcasing a well-crafted narrative with linguistic coherence.
The judging panel will select 10 winners as per mentioned criteria. The winning stories will be published and showcased at the 33rd edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. A ceremony will honour the winning writers during the fair, and their stories will also be featured on Ewaa's website and social media platforms.
