Russia withdraws all its troops from Belarus, Wagner forces enter: Ukraine

Russia has withdrawn approximately all of its military personnel from Belarus after undergoing training and exercise drills, while the mercenary Wagner forces have crossed the border into Belarus, the Ukrainian State Border Service reported over the weekend.

Ukraine State Border service spokesman Andriy Demchenko said: “The situation at the border with Belarus remains fully under control. On the other side of the border, we do not see any enemy buildup for a repeated invasion of Ukraine. However, despite everything, we must be ready for any developments in the situation, because Belarus, unfortunately, continues to support Russia in its war against Ukraine,” according to state news agency Ukrinform.

The Ukrainian official also added that the border service detected and followed the movement of Wagner group mercenaries crossing over from Russia to Belarus.

He said: “Separate groups of representatives from private military campaigns have begun moving from Russia to Belarus.” "Border guards continue to monitor the situation in order to understand the location, number and tasks of the militants.”

Belarus has said earlier that Wagner forces were going to be training Belarusian soldiers.

Washington-based think tank Institute of Study of War (ISW) wrote in an assessment that Wagner instructors previously deployed in Africa previously arrived at training grounds in Belarus. The analysts said: “Wagner’s internationally deployed commanders are likely arriving in Belarus to prepare training infrastructure and set conditions for the arrival of regular Wagner forces, who are reportedly slated to deploy to Belarus in early August after taking leave and undergoing reorganization following Wagner‘s June 24 armed rebellion.”
