SAO PAULO, 18th June, 2023 (WAM) — An extratropical cyclone struck the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil on Friday, leaving at least 11 dead and 20 missing, according to local authorities.
The storm caused torrential rains, the Rio Grande do Sul government said in a press release, warning the public about possible landslides in several areas.
The authorities said helicopter searches to find missing persons are underway in flooded neighbourhoods, noting that they have carried out 2,400 rescues in the last two days.
