Global Supreme Audit Institutions’ conclave kicks off in India

NEW DELHI, 13th June, 2023 (WAM) — A pioneering conclave of 85 international experts from Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in 20 countries began in Goa, India, on Tuesday, underlining their role in “ensuring good governance, transparency and accountability to optimise their positive impact on humankind.”

Inaugurating the conclave, the Governor of Goa, P S Sreedharan Pillai, said SAIs have a “central role in strengthening governance and delivering a positive impact on the lives of citizens.” He urged SAI delegates in their respective countries to be pillars of accountability, effectiveness and guarantors of integrity in governance.

Five Arab countries are attending the conclave. Girish Chandra Murmu, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, which is the Supreme Audit Institution in India, is hoping to bring out two compendiums on Blue Economy and Responsible Artificial Intelligence out of contributions from panellists at the conclave’s sessions on these two subjects.

The SAI Engagement Group, which is responsible for organising the conclave in Goa, is an Indonesian initiative established in 2022 during Indonesia’s Presidency of the Group of 20 (G20).

“The constitution of SAI Engagement Group stems from a recognition of the role of SAIs in promoting the efficiency, accountability, and transparency of public administration, and supporting the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations," according to its founding statement. Murmu is the current Chair of this group by virtue of India's G20 presidency.
