NOUAKCHOTT, 5th June, 2023 (WAM) — The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has inaugurated several development projects in the village of Balawakh, located in the Inchiri region of Mauritania.
The projects include several residential units, a six-classroom school, a mosque with a capacity of 300 worshippers, a children's park, and a sewing centre that provides local women sustainable source of income, enabling them to be self-sufficient.
A part of the ERC's development initiatives in Mauritania, the projects also included the paving of the village roads and removing waste and debris.
The opening ceremony was attended by an ERC delegation led by Hamoud Abdullah Al Junaibi, acting Secretary-General of the ERC, who is currently visiting Mauritania on various humanitarian missions, and Hamad Ghanem AlMehairi, UAE Ambassador to Mauritania, along with several Mauritanian officials.
Al Mehairi affirmed that these ERC projects are part of the UAE's global humanitarian responsibility, adding that the developmental initiatives and other humanitarian assistance provided by the UAE and the ERC embody the close relations between the leaderships and peoples of the UAE and Mauritania.
For his part, Al Junaibi affirmed that these vital projects are a product of the ERC’s tireless efforts and its initiatives that seek to benefit the Mauritanian people, noting that the ERC is also closely monitoring the humanitarian situation in the country and has fulfilled the needs of targeted groups in different areas.
The ERC’s programmes and projects will continue until the needs of local targeted groups are met, he further added, affirming that the ERC will exert all efforts to support them without discrimination or favouritism.
Al Junaibi lauded the cooperation and effective coordination between the ERC and its Mauritanian partners in implementing these development projects.
