The toll from a horrific three-train rail crash in India rose to 288 early Saturday, an official told AFP.
Sudhanshu Sarangi, director general of the Odisha state fire department, confirmed the new number to AFP.

Hundreds of people were also injured in the accident late on Friday after a passenger train derailed and collided with a goods train in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday, according to media reports.
Rescue operations were underway at the site and “all possible assistance” is being given to those affected, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet on Friday.
