Historic building destroyed in Philippine capital

MANILA, 22nd May, 2023 (WAM) — A massive fire hit the iconic Manila Post Office in Manila late Sunday night, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze reached the first alarm at 11:41 pm Sunday and reached the general alarm shortly before 6 am Monday.

More than 80 fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze, which took firefighters more than seven hours to bring under control.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Built in 1926, the post office was once considered the “grandest building” in Manila, according to its website.
