FNC Parliamentary Division participates in 10th ASSECAA consultative meeting

MBABANE, 12th May, 2023 (WAM) — Dr. Adnan Hamad Al Hammadi, and Ahmed Abdullah Al Shehhi, members of the Federal National Council (FNC) Parliamentary Division, participated in the 10th consultative meeting of the Association of Senates, Shura and Equivalent Councils of Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA) held in Eswatini.
The meeting discussed the impact of various international crises on African and Arab economies and the importance of the green economy in achieving sustainable development goals in Africa and the Arab region.
During the event, Al Shehhi proposed several ideas from the Emirati Parliamentary Division, such as adopting laws that promote green growth and attracting more investments in green projects and initiatives by offering benefits, discounts and tax exemptions.
Parliaments should also adopt green budgets, or those that consider environmental and social factors, and increase funding for research programmes that support the green economy and climate action, he added.
He then highlighted the key role of parliaments in verifying the commitment of countries to the Paris Climate Agreement and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, in addition to promoting cooperation and strategic partnerships to support the green economy and address the effects of climate change.
Under this framework, he called on the meeting’s attendees to participate in COP28, which will be held in Dubai in November 2023, while highlighting the importance of exchanging expertise and best practices among parliamentarians in the green economy.
