Saqr Ghobash meets head of France’s National Assembly

PARIS, 10th May, 2023 (WAM) — Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), met with Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly of France, during his official visit to France with an Emirati delegation.

They discussed ways to strengthen the cooperation between the two sides, including exchanging visits, aligning on shared interests, and enhancing their relationship. The leaders also agreed to strengthen their parliamentary relations in line with the strategic alliance between the UAE and France. Ghobash expressed the FNC's commitment to the UAE's directives and visions, particularly achieving peace, security, and stability in the region and the world, and strengthening relationships with other parliaments and international parliamentary organisations.

He also expressed his gratitude to Braun-Pivet and the Republic of France for the warm welcome and hospitality he received at the start of the meeting, noting that the delegation’s visit aimed to enhance the collaboration between the two countries on various issues, including their parliamentary cooperation.

He then praised the long-standing and exemplary overall relations between the two countries, especially the fact that France was the first foreign destination for President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan after he took office.

The UAE considers climate change a key issue and President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed announced that 2023 is the Year of Sustainability to celebrate the country’s related achievements, which has always been a core part of its development plans, he added.

The UAE will host the world’s leading conference on climate action this year, COP28, which will promote environmental protection, sustainable economic development and human well-being, Ghobash noted.

He then invited Braun-Pivet to visit the UAE and the FNC.

Braun-Pivet expressed her appreciation for Ghobash and his delegation and praised the UAE’s overall achievements, stressing it was a model of harmony, tolerance and peace.
She also highlighted the importance of strengthening the parliamentary and diplomatic ties between the two countries, and coordinating their stance on regional and international issues of mutual concern, noting that bilateral visits promote parliamentary cooperation.
