Top three rivals facing Turkey’s Erdogan in presidential elections
Three contenders will challenge Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at elections on May 14, according to the final list of candidates published on Friday.

Erdogan’s opponents are:
- Kemal Kilicdaroglu, a social democrat who represents the biggest opposition alliance.
- Muharrem Ince, who split from Kilicdaroglu’s party in 2021.
- Sinan Ogan, representing five nationalist parties including the anti-immigrant Zafer Party.
Kilicdaroglu, 75, has been trying to convince Ince to drop out of the race but so far hasn’t been successful.
The candidates must win more than 50 percent of the votes to avoid a runoff two weeks later.
Erdogan, who has led Turkey for the last two decades, is facing the toughest election of his career as a deep cost-of-living crisis and the rebuilding of cities devastated by earthquakes tests his government.
