ABU DHABI, 9th March, 2023 (WAM) — The third edition of the International Translation Conference, organised by the National Library and Archives, urged its participants to prioritise new academic studies that help preserve the nation's memory and encourage participation in the process, by inviting e-programme specialists to present their research on machine translation and adopting new unconventional solutions, which improve translators’ skills and utilise artificial intelligence (AI).
This statement was made during the closing day of the conference, which was held under the theme, “Artificial Intelligence: Translation and the Enrichment of National Libraries,” and featured presentations of over 30 research studies on various areas of translation. The conference's sessions also witnessed serious discussions on new ideas in advanced academic translation studies.
During his speech at the end of the conference, Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Director-General of the National Library and Archives, stressed that the UAE, upon the directives of its leadership, supports the cultural movement of the Middle East, due to its pioneering academic and cultural initiatives, including those that support translation and publishing.
The conference will help enrich the National Library and Archives and other local, regional and international libraries with further studies, as well as attract a new generation of promising translators.
The conference was attended by more than 30 scholars, including 12 from the UAE and 18 from the rest of the world.
The conference serves as a platform for a multilingual scientific and academic forum that brings together elite researchers from all around the world in various fields of translation studies. It features professors from major universities in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as local and regional universities and research centres.
