President of Uruguay receives Al Jarwan; supports role of Global Council for Tolerance and Peace

Montevideo, 1st March, 2023 (WAM) — Luis Lacalle Pou, President of the Republic of Uruguay, received Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, at the Presidential Palace in the capital, Montevideo, today.
During the meeting, the President of Uruguay welcomed Al-Jarwan and his accompanying delegation, affirming his Uruguay’s support for the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and its objectives aimed at promoting tolerance and peace. Saeed Abdullah Saif Al Qamzi, the UAE Ambassador to the Argentine Republic, Non-Resident Ambassador to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay and Non-Resident Ambassador to Paraguay, was among those who attended the meeting.

He expressed his country's readiness to cooperate with the Council in all fields in order to support peace, counterterrorism and extremism, and support peaceful coexistence, stability and development around the world.
For his part, Al-Jarwan thanked the President of Uruguay for the warm reception, commending Uruguay's support for peace and development efforts around the world.

He affirmed the Council's endeavor to work with Uruguay in order to unify international efforts aimed at promoting tolerance, peaceful coexistence, development and peace.

Francisco Carlos Bustillo Bonasso, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, had also received Al-Jarwan and his accompanying delegation at the HQ of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and affirmed his country's support for the efforts to promote the values of tolerance and peace adopted by the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace.

The Council’s delegation, headed by Al-Jarwan, gave a presentation on the Council’s efforts in the field of promoting tolerance and peace around the world through the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, which now includes nearly 90 countries around the world, and the General Assembly for Tolerance and Peace, which mobilises the efforts of organisations, educational institutions and competent individuals in order to cultivate a culture of tolerance.

The Uruguayan minister welcomed the opening of a regional office for the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in Montevideo, through which all possible efforts will be made to achieve the goals of the Council in South America.
President of the House of Representatives, Ope Pasquet Iribarne, also met with the delegation of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, headed by Al-Jarwan, and they discussed ways to strengthen relations and cooperation to activate the memorandum of understanding signed by both sides on areas of tolerance and peace, and adopting measures to develop parliamentary cooperation in various fields.

Al-Jarwan also signed an MoU with the Latin American Parliament to enhance cooperation on organising conferences and events in support of tolerance and cooperation, exchanging experience and efforts in supporting tolerance and peace, and recognising the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace as an international reference for peace and tolerance efforts in the world.

In a related context, the President of the CERES (Centro de Estudios de la Realidad Económica y Social), met with Al-Jarwan and his accompanying delegation. The two sides signed an MoU on enhancing cooperation in areas of supporting tolerance, peace and sustainable development.
