Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival crowns winners of Family Team Tournament

The Abu Dhabi Chess Club and Mind Games announced the winners of the Family Team Tournament as part of the 30th edition Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival. The one-day competition was held yesterday according to the Swiss system, consisting of 7 rounds, and each team is composed of players representing children and their families, “father or mother, or brother.” Sharma Family of India clinched the gold medal, notching up a spectacular score of 11 points from 4 matches (one win and 3 draws). Yakubbev Family of Uzbekistan won the silver medal with a score of 10 points from 4 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss. The bronze medal went to the Family of Moroccan international master Mohammed Tissir with 10 points from 3 wins and 4 draws.

The 30th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival is taking place from 15TH to until 25 August 2024 at the St. Regis Hotel Abu Dhabi and Radisson Blu Hotel and Resort, is organised by the Abu Dhabi Chess Club and Mind Games and supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council. The 30th edition has achieved an unprecedented participation record of more than 2,200 male and female players representing 82 countries, compared to last year’s event that witnessed the participation of 1,704 players from 63 countries.

The events include International Masters competitions, Open Championship A, Open Championship B, Juniors (under 16 years-old) tournament, Open Blitz tournament, Juniors Blitz tournament (under 16 years), Family Team tournament, Community Teams tournament, Government Department Teams tournament, People of Determination tournament, the main Abu Dhabi Chess Academy tournament and the remaining Abu Dhabi Chess Academy tournaments (9 to 17 years).

Dar delivers detailed design and sustainability strategy for new Aramco Stadium in Al Khobar

Dar’s sister Sidara company Maffeis Engineering – one of the world’s most specialized structural engineering consultancies – delivered the detailed design of the stunning and structurally unique roof and façade system. Dar also crafted the sustainability strategy for the stadium, targeting LEED and Mostadam certifications and setting exceptional standards for sustainable stadiums in hot climates, while aligning with Saudi Vision 2030, the Saudi Green Initiative and local and international regulations. The strategy includes measures for implementing passive and active energy efficiency incorporating demand response technologies, reducing water use, diverting
operational waste away from landfills, and specifying eco-friendly, local, and recycled products.

UAE wins international beach soccer tournament title in China

The UAE national beach soccer team has won the title of the Belt and Road International Beach Soccer Tournament 2024, organised by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) in Weihai, China.

The UAE team secured the title after defeating the Chinese team in three consecutive matches, with the first match ending 4-2, the second 7-3, and the third 4-2.

UAE youth team wins 18 medals at World Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2024 in Croatia

The UAE national Jiu-Jitsu youth team, sponsored by Mubadala Investment Company, concluded its participation in the World Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2024 in Zadar, Croatia, on Saturday evening.

The UAE champions won a total of 18 medals, including 5 gold, 6 silver, and 7 bronze, in this second edition of the tournament, which was organized by the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation and featured over 350 male and female athletes from 24 countries.

Fahad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, thanked and congratulated the UAE’s wise leadership and its people on this well-deserved achievement, which further solidifies the country’s dominance in the global Jiu-Jitsu arena.
