ABU DHABI, 25th September, 2023 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) is participating in the second edition of the Liwa Date Festival and Auction, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region.
Mubarak Al Qusaili Al Mansoori, Executive Director of the Agricultural Affairs Sector of ADAFSA, stated that ADAFSA is keen on supporting and developing the date industry in the UAE in general and Abu Dhabi Emirate in particular.
The Authority adopts the best agricultural practices and modern, innovative technologies in the field of agriculture, working to enhance the food security system, agricultural sustainability, and biological safety in all Abu Dhabi farms while ensuring the achievement of food safety requirements for farm dates.
Al Mansoori added that ADAFSA's participation comes to support the festival for the second consecutive time, stemming from its keenness to promote agricultural, heritage, and cultural events that promote the Emirate in general and the Al Dhafra Region in particular.
The festival serves as a specialised platform for marketing and selling local and international dates and their products, in addition to exchanging experiences among farmers from around the world on modern farming methods and palm tree care.
Al Mansoori pointed out that ADAFSA is participating in the Festival to raise awareness about the role of the Authority through its programmes, projects, activities and services provided to customers. It also aims to raise awareness about the importance of palm trees and promote the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Award 2023, in addition to introducing the Food Loss and Waste Programme to the public visiting the festival.
Through this participation, ADAFSA aims to build the capacity of farmers, raise awareness of best practices in palm services management, and introduce the community to its services provided to farmers and livestock breeders. The Authority also provides technical support to the festival by participating in the evaluation committee of the dates competition.
The festival offers a variety of accompanying events for visitors, including the International Dates Village, the Events Square and the accompanying competitions. In addition to organising date competitions and auctions, the festival organises a date packaging competition, an international olive oil competition, a cooking competition, a photography competition, a drawing competition and the Jordanian Dates Village.
