Global Council for Tolerance and Peace praises Arab League Council’s in promoting values of tolerance and peace

ABU DHABI, 10th September, 2023 (WAM) — The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) praised the role of the Council of the League of Arab States in promoting the values of tolerance at the international level and combating all forms of hatred during the 160th session which held in the Egyptian capital of Cairo last Wednesday.

The Council of the League of Arab States also denounced and condemned all acts of violence directed against religions, and sacred books, symbols, and sites. In particular, it condemned the crimes of burning the Holy Quran as well as other provocative actions that fuel hatred and violence around the world.
The GCTP valued the call of the Arab Foreign Ministers to the international community for the need to give priority to the language of tolerance and avoid everything that might harm religious peace in the world, the need to criminalise contempt of religions under international law, and the need to work on developing an agreed-upon definition at the intergovernmental level for hate speech in order to strengthen efforts to fight it under the international law.

The GCTP commended the efforts made by the UAE in partnership with the United Kingdom, for facilitating the adoption of the UN Security Council No (2686) on “Tolerance and International Peace and Security’’.

The UNSC expressed its deep concern over the spread of manifestations of intolerance, extremism and discrimination, and recognised that promoting the values of tolerance constitutes the most important guarantee for the sustainability of international peace and security.
The UNSC urged states, international and regional organisations, and civil society organisations to make every effort to spread the values of tolerance and combat all forms of hatred.

Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, President of the GCTP , affirmed that the GCTP spares no efforts to work with regional and international partners to implement resolutions issued by the UN and the Arab League to deliver aspired goals that make people enjoy security, peace and stability.
