SPSA’s ‘accident reporting service’ sees remarkable demand

SHARJAH, 26th July, 2023 (WAM) — The Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA) “accident reporting service” through the Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System, launched by the SPSA last year, received great demand.

The service allows occupational health and safety officials to report accidents in different workplaces, through easy and quick steps, without the need to go to the Authority's headquarters

Sheikh Saif bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Director of the SPSA, explained that the Authority seeks to create a safe society free of dangers by launching new and diversified services that realise the Authority’s vision. He indicated that the accident reporting service supports cooperation with all entities in Sharjah.

Noura Al Hammadi, Head of the Reports Department, explained that the SPSA launched an introductory campaign, including introductory visits to each of the educational facilities, construction sites and factories in the Emirate of Sharjah, and distribution of pamphlets explaining the procedures to be followed in the event of accidents.

She added that the campaign included organising training workshops for officials of Safety in Work Sites, to be acquainted with the method of reporting accidents within the system, without the need for the safety officer to come to the SPSA Authority and report the accident.

Pamphlets explain the types of accidents that must be reported, and the time for each type, which includes injuries, fractures, burns, occupational diseases and dangerous accidents, which affect the safety of workers in different vital sectors.

The SPSA called on all educational facilities, construction sites, and factories in Sharjah to register with the Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System, to ensure the safety of practising activities in the emirate by providing the necessary information to monitor and analyse risks; implement the necessary preventive measures, and determine the requirements necessary to practice the activity safely and healthily.

Reporting occupational accidents to the Prevention and Safety Authority must be done through the system, within 24 hours for fatal accidents, and 72 hours for other accidents. Accident data is received for information and analysis to implement preventive measures that prevent the recurrence of accidents.
