India celebrates top score at International Biology Olympiad in Al Ain

NEW DELHI, 12th July, 2023 (WAM) — India’s Minister of State for Skill Development, Electronics and Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has praised the students and their mentors, who took part in the International Biology Olympiad, which concluded in Al Ain yesterday.

About 320 students representing 80 countries and 300 jury members and experts from around the world participated in the Olympiad’s 34th edition, which commenced at the UAE University in Al Ain on 3rd July.

Celebrations are being organised in Bengaluru, Kota, Jalna, and Risali, cities from where Indian students who won gold medals at the Olympiad went to Al Ain to participate.

Their achievement will also be celebrated at Delhi University, the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, the National Institute of Advanced Studies, and the National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Health, scientific institutions in India which sent mentors to the Olympiad along with the Indian student participants.

India and Singapore scored the highest places in the Olympiad. Both countries won four gold medals each.

“Congratulations to the students and mentors!” the Indian Minister tweeted from his verified official Twitter handle. “This is the first time that India has topped the medals tally at the International Biology Olympiad.”
