ABU DHABI, 21st June, 2023 (WAM) — The General Women's Union (GWU), in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, has organised "Cooperate With Us to Prevent It" forum on the occasion of The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
The event was held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak (The Mother of the Nation), Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF).
Several important security, policing and societal leaders participated in the event.
On the occasion, Sheikha Fatima said, “It is a pleasure to extend thanks and appreciation to the UAE's wise leadership; President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, and Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, for the UAE's prudent approach to employ and harness the country's efforts in all its federal, local, civil and private institutions for the noblest and greatest goal, i.e. human development, since humans are a country's true wealth, and with the will of humans civilisations rise and go down in history. This is where the UAE shined among the world's nations as a country that spared no effort in creating the most conducive, nurturing and secure environment for its people, to ensure they are the happiest in the world."
Her Highness further explained that country's diligence in protecting its community from drugs and harmful substances, which is considered one of the world's leading social, security and health problems, and affects youth primarily, noting that all institutions must work together to mitigate the harms of drugs and raise awareness to ensure the elimination of such a destructive issue.
She also indicated, “Through the forum, we are keen on making integrated efforts alongside the security sector and support its national efforts to achieve our goals in addressing this scourge by reviewing and explaining the problems of drug abuse, defining its causes, showing its seriousness, and its negative repercussions on the individual and society, health disorders and social problems resulting from drug use, as well as educating the community about the dangers Narcotic drug abuse and addiction, as well as showing the steps by which addicts begin their path towards addiction, to enhance society's ability to address this phenomenon.”
In her message to parents, Sheikha Fatima said, “On this day, l would like to deliver a message to parents. I urge you that you should know very well that family is its children's protective shield and the core of their emotional, cognitive, psychological and social immunity. You are the ones who lay the foundation stone for building children's personalities. You should be very keen on sticking to the values and principles of the religion of Islam.”
"I extend my greetings to the Ministry of Interior and the policing and security institutions in the country for their dedicated efforts to enhance security and stability and continue the country's accomplishments in fighting this phenomenon," she said in conclusion.
