US ready to stick to nuclear warhead limits ‘as long as Russia does’: Official
The United States is ready to maintain nuclear warhead limits under a now largely moribund Cold War treaty as long as Russia does — and to negotiate new treaties with Moscow and Beijing, a top official said Friday.
“We’re prepared to stick to the central limits as long as Russia does,” National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said, referring to the warhead limits in the New START treaty.
Calling on Moscow to engage on a new treaty to replace New START, which expires in 2026, he said “we’re also ready to engage China without preconditions.”
