WAM delegation visits media entities in Republic of Korea

SEOUL, 19th May, 2023 (WAM) – A delegation of the Emirates News Agency (WAM), led by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, reviewed means to promote news exchange with media institutions in the Republic of Korea, especially with the UAE hosting the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) at Expo City Dubai in 2023.

This came during a working visit by WAM delegation to a number of Korean media entities, during which they discussed the important role of the media in "COP 28", and the Korean media's preparations to participate in covering this prominent global event, in addition to its participation in the next session of Congress. The WAM delegation visited the headquarters of the English-language newspaper, JoongAng Ilbo, and was briefed on its work mechanism and the media services it provides to enhance news exchange between the two sides.

The delegation also visited the headquarters of Dong-A Ilbo newspaper, and the headquarters of Yonhap News Agency. They discussed the partnership between the two agencies in terms of news exchange and the means to further develop relevant cooperation.

Another visit was paid to the headquarters of the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), a Korean television and radio network established in 1991. During the visit, prospects for media cooperation between the two sides were discussed.

During the visit, the Emirates News Agency signed a cooperation agreement with the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), one of the largest Korean television networks that was established in 1927.

It also signed two cooperation agreements with Chosun Ilbo newspaper and Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), to enhance media cooperation and news exchange.

Al Rayssi affirmed WAM's interest in boosting its partnership with media institutions in the Republic of Korea to establish a network of constructive and fruitful international relations with various international media outlets, commending Korea’s esteemed media entities with a long history in the media field.

The UAE is preparing to host COP28, Al Rayssi added, highlighting WAM’s keenness to welcome media organisations from Korea to cover the global event, which is expected to be a turning point in the global climate action drive.

Al Rayssi noted that the distinguished success that the inaugural Global Media Congress achieved is a source of motivation to build on these accomplishments and enhance WAM's partnerships with international media organisations, including those in Korea, to develop a more comprehensive agenda for the next edition of the event.
