ABU DHABI, 18th May, 2023 (WAM) — Abu Dhabi City Municipality, through the City Planning Department, Directorate of Environment, Health, and Safety, organised a workshop at its headquarters on the occupational health and safety requirements for companies in the construction and building sector.
The workshop, which targeted non-Arabic speakers working in the sector, aimed at raising construction and building professionals’ level of awareness in occupational safety and health system in the Abu Dhabi emirate.
Moreover, a group of numerous construction and building companies representatives in Abu Dhabi were recruited for the workshop, and many topics defining the framework of the occupational safety and health system in the Abu Dhabi emirate were discussed in English, as well as the Municipality's role as a regulatory sub-authority in the construction and building sector in Abu Dhabi city, as well as the roles of other related authorities.
During the workshop, Municipality representatives provided information and guidance to professionals in the building and construction sector regarding their responsibilities and roles in relation to occupational health and safety. They also explained the procedure for implementing Abu Dhabi emirate occupational health and safety system. Furthermore, the representatives showcased the method for applying the occupational safety and health management system through the use of the electronic performance measuring system, including guidance on accessing the system and submitting required documents.
In addition, many challenges facing the professionals in the construction and building sector in regard to the application of occupational safety and health system in the Abu Dhabi emirate were discussed, and the inspection method of the companies in the sector was presented along with the inspection process for the occupational safety and health requirements in those companies.
The workshop concluded with questions and inquiries from company representatives in the construction and building sector, and receiving the answers from the Municipality officials, in addition to handing “certifications” to a number of companies that are certified by the occupational safety and health system in the Abu Dhabi emirate.
