DUBAI, 2nd May, 2023 (WAM) – The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has concluded the February 2023 edition of the Instagram Photo Contest, At Work, and the March 2023 edition Silence.
A total of 10 winners were announced for both contests with submissions being received under the hashtag #HIPAContest_AtWork for the February edition, and #HIPAContest_Slilence for the March edition. The contest winners hailed from Egypt, Indonesia, Turkey, India, Vietnam, Philippines and Bangladesh.
Ali bin Thalith, HIPA Secretary General, said, “We are pleased with the increase in the number of participants in our monthly #HIPAContest, and we are eager to see more amateur photographers gaining and developing confidence and experience though this contest. Through their experience, they can also be determined to participate and win in a larger and more complex photo competition, such as the annual HIPA photography contest with the theme ‘Diversity’. The exponential growth in our photography community’s participation in our monthly Instagram contest is an accurate indication that we are on the right track.”
Bin Thalith added, “Persistence in self-education and acquisition of knowledge from various and varied sources raises the readiness of photographers to interact with the various life topics presented in competitions, so we always recommend paying attention to this aspect. Congratulations to all the winners and we wish all participants success in the upcoming competitions.”
Our winner from ‘At Work’ competition – Summer Kamaleldeen Mohamed Farag @summer_kamal, said, “I took the photo during a trip with friends to the city of Tanta. I saw a woman selling tangerines on the corner of the road, so I chose a suitable angle to take a picture of her on the street. I have been participating in HIPA’s competitions for years, and my happiness was indescribable, when I found out I was a winner.
“This win has made me visible in photography communities and has given me tremendous energy to continue. I am always working on developing myself, and I aspire to study photography from specialised agencies.”
Ahmed Salem Ragab @boyahia, winner from the ‘Silence’ competition, said, “This photo was taken in the city of Qanater Al-Khairiya during a trip with friends. We were photographing the beautiful biodiversity in the area, which is famous for its wooden boats and rocky waterfalls designed to prevent the strong flow of the Nile River. During sunrise, the mist covered the waterfall, while the egret was standing alone at the top of the waterfall. It was a scene that called for silence and appreciating the beauty, so I captured the moment in a photograph. This is my first win in HIPA’s competitions, and it has given me great enthusiasm, and a greater ability to communicate my work with people.”
