SHARJAH, 30th March, 2023 (WAM) — The Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa) hosted Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, at its headquarters, where a group of sustainability-focused startups presented their innovative solutions.
The headquarters also served as the venue for the first quarterly meeting of the Emirates Municipal Environmental Council, chaired by the Minister of Climate Change and the Environment. During the meeting, Mariam Almheiri discussed the latest developments in the field of sustainability and climate change and explored ways to promote innovation in these areas.
Najla Al-Midfa, CEO of Sheraa, expressed her satisfaction with the event, stating that the meeting at Sheraa reflected the organisation's commitment to driving sustainability and innovation in the region. By partnering with the ministry and showcasing sustainability startups' solutions, Sheraa aims to contribute to the UAE's efforts to address climate change and promote sustainable development. Additionally, Sheraa encourages startups to embrace innovative business solutions and work towards creating a more diversified economy. Sharjah's commitment to sustainability reflects how a city can balance economic growth with environmental responsibility, creating a prosperous and livable future for all its residents.
Earlier this year at the Sharjah Investment Forum (SIF), Sheraa and Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment (MOCCAE) signed an MOU to collaborate for Access Challenge Sharjah 2023 and promote Sharjah as a centre for sustainability by working towards balancing the economy, environment, and society while preserving natural resources.
During the event, five incubated startups presented their sustainable solutions to the MOCCAE council meeting attendees. These included Manhat, a deep technology startup with a patented "natural water distillation" technology providing a sustainable source of water and floating farm solutions; FortyGuard, an outdoor temperature expert with proprietary insights helping clients optimize energy and improve the environment; Palmade, a manufacturer of disposable cutlery made from natural materials, offering a sustainable solution to a common environmental problem; Kyma, offering an eco-friendly surface cleaner in tablet form, highlighting the importance of reusing and refilling spray bottles for a more environmentally conscious experience; and Clever Harvest, which is enhancing food security through enterprise and predictive software for sustainable sourcing, tracing, and quality certification.
The presentations of these startups highlighted the potential of Sheraa's entrepreneurial ecosystem to make a meaningful contribution to the nation's sustainability and climate action objectives.
