IPU Assembly approves UAE’s proposal on ‘Partnerships for Climate Action’

MANAMA, 15th March, 2023 (WAM) — At the 146th IPU Assembly today in Manama, Bahrain, parliamentarians representing close to 140 countries approved a proposal tabled by the UAE Federal National Council (FNC) Parliamentary Division, on ‘’Partnerships for Climate Action: Promoting access to affordable green energy, ensuring innovation, responsibility and fairness''.

Meera Sultan Al Suwaidi, a member of the FNC Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), was also elected rapporteur of the draft resolution, and rapporteur of the outputs of the Parliamentary Union meeting that will be held on the sidelines of the COP28 Conference of the Parties which the UAE will host later this year.

The IPU has launched a new campaign, Parliaments for the Planet, designed to mobilise parliaments and parliamentarians to act on the climate emergency.

The campaign will encourage parliaments and those who work in them to lead by example, reduce their own carbon footprint and take concrete measures to implement the Paris Agreement on climate to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
