SHARJAH, 9th March, 2023 (WAM) — The 51st edition of the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show (WJMES), organised by Expo Centre Sharjah (ECS) with the support of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), is seeing active participation from a group of Emirati designers and craftsmen within the City Story and Emirates Jewellers platforms.
These platforms are designated by SCCI to support Emirati talents, owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and entrepreneurs with disabilities.
The City Story platform, launched for the first time at this event, features a display of handcrafted products with designs inspired by the landmarks and heritage of the city of Khorfakkan and its history. The platform also showcases traditional paintings by Emirati artist Nouf Abdulaziz Busaym. On the other hand, the Emirates Jewellers platform features gold jewellery adorned with Arabic Diwani calligraphy by Emirati designer Ali Mohammed Al Ameeri, along with many golden works and artistic creations.
Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI and ECS, indicated that the City Story platform, launched by SCCI for the first time under WJMES, represents SCCI's unwavering commitment and continuous endeavours to support young Emirati talents and owners of SMEs. It provides them with more facilities so that they can contribute actively to the economy of the Emirate of Sharjah.
Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of ECS, emphasised that the distinguished presence of Emirati companies, along with international exhibitors and the unique creative exhibits presented by Emirati designers, reflects the progress of the local gold and jewellery industry. The event is crucial in providing Emirati entrepreneurs with the opportunity to display their products and gain more expertise and experience from the participants. Al Midfa highly appreciated the Emirati designers and craftsmen for their distinctive handcrafts, heritage products, and unique designs of gold and jewellery.
Mona Al Suwaidi, Director of the Executive Office and Officer in charge of the Emirates Jewellers platform, indicated that the first edition of the City Story platform includes artwork and handcrafted products by a group of Emirati entrepreneurs and talents, who are keen to depict the landmarks and heritage of Khorfakkan city in an outstanding artistic and creative way.
The exhibition, which runs until 12th March, has attracted over 500 major companies and brands specialised in designing and manufacturing watches, jewellery, and gold works from 20 countries across the world.
