Digital School, Emirates Red Crescent establish AED100 million fund supporting digital education projects globally

DUBAI, 14th February, 2023 (WAM) — The Digital School, one of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, and the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), signed a strategic partnership aiming to establish the Digital School Fund with AED100 million, as part of the “Digital School dialogues” during the World Government Summit 2023.

The signing event was attended by Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Digital School and Managing Director of the World Government Summit Organisation, and Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ERC.

The strategic partnership was signed by Hamoud Abdullah Al Junaibi, ERC's Deputy Secretary-General, and Dr. Waleed Al Ali, the Digital School Secretary-General.

Commenting on the event, Al Olama stressed that the partnership with the Emirates Red Crescent in establishing the Digital School projects fund reflects the human values we seek to consolidate through the initiatives that provide educational opportunities. Furthermore, the fund will contribute to accelerating the achievement of the Digital School’s projects.

He commended ERC’s global efforts, its comprehensive initiatives and projects aimed at supporting all societies around the world, and what it represents as an ambassador of Emirati values, stressing the Digital School’s keenness to collaborate with the Emirates Red Crescent and with all local and international institutions and contribute to the development of global communities and provide learning opportunities for students around the world.

Dr. Al Mazrouei welcomed the strategic partnership with the Digital School to facilitate smarter and more flexible remote-education opportunities in countries facing challenges in the education process.

He stated that the Emirates Red Crescent’s interest in these smart partnerships, which embody its vision of unity and joined efforts in order to advance education in countries and regions that face humanitarian crises and development challenges in this regard; all of which, in turn, affirms ERC’s constant endeavour to devise solutions that make education accessible to anyone, anywhere, and under any circumstances, despite crises and emergencies, believing in the importance of education in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

He added, "There is no doubt that this fund will contribute immensely to achieving the goals of the Digital School, which is considered a major milestone in the e-learning process; the creation of a modern technical education system that meets the needs of students in refugee camps and the most vulnerable segments of society; relies on IT and AI; and contributes to the continuation of their education process despite challenges," noting that the initiative will also bring about a significant leap in the level and quality of educational services directed to these segments.

The partnership with ERC aims to establish a fund to support the Digital School’s programmes financially and achieve its goals of providing smart and flexible distance education in countries affected by disasters, crises when it comes to formal education. The fund provides educational opportunities for one million students around the world. It seeks to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and develop knowledge and skills through applications of AI and modern digital technologies in remote-education.

The agreement also focuses on cooperating to launch the largest initiative to support digital education, allocating funding sources for the Digital School's projects, enhancing the initiative's logistical operations, and providing advanced digital education using smart solutions to more than one million students. It also focuses on forming a work group to coordinate, follow up, and implement the Fund's activities and prepare and set up regulations, plans, and mechanisms.

The Digital School, which was launched in November 2020 under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, as part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, is considered to be the first complete digital school of its kind. It aims to empower students with digital learning options in regions that need the appropriate conditions or requirements for students to pursue their education. It also provides a qualitative, innovative, and flexible opportunity for blended learning and distance learning, targeting less fortunate societal groups, refugees, and the displaced through modern educational content and curricula.

Dubai Customs Triumphs Globally with Five-Star Excellence Award for Government Communication

through its Corporate Communication Department, has won the prestigious International Best Practice Competition (IBPC) award, earning the “Excellence Level – Five Stars” in Government Communication. This recognition highlights the department’s achievements, initiatives, innovations, and future vision. It also aligns with Dubai’s government efforts to create an innovation-driven environment, nurture talent, and institutionalize creativity. The award strengthens Dubai’s global standing, as the IBPC is a
renowned international competition, where organizations from around the world showcase their
best practices based on a framework of excellence and leadership. The winners are announced
during a special ceremony hosted by the Centre for Organizational Excellence Research (COER) in
New Zealand. This year, 72 organizations from 10 countries participated in the competition.
H.E. Dr. Abdulla Mohammed Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, expressed his pride in
receiving this esteemed award, noting that it reflects Dubai Customs & strategic focus on fostering
a culture of creativity and innovation. He emphasized the importance of enhancing Dubai’s
global reputation through such awards, which highlight improvements in the customs
experience, service development, and effective communication with local and international
stakeholders. He added that Dubai’s forward-looking vision aligns with the leadership’s goals of
achieving excellence in applying international standards in digital content and integrated
institutional work.
Khalil Saqer bin Gharib, Director of the Corporate Communication Department, noted that Dubai
Customs surpassed many global organizations in the 10th edition of the competition,
establishing its government communication as a global model of innovative practices. He also
highlighted that these international awards contribute to the department’s continuous success
and its strong presence in the Dubai Government Excellence Program. The Corporate
Communication Department has won numerous global and local awards, including the
International Brilliance Award for Best Marketing and PR Team at the BOC Brilliance Awards in
London, the Bronze Award for Environmental Excellence at the 14th Annual World Summit for
Corporate Social Responsibility, the Global Sustainability Peacock Award from the Institute of Directors in London, and the Best Government Communication Team Award at both local and Arab levels from the Sharjah Government Communication Awards.

opportunities of today and for years to come.
This edition features insights from both international and UAE experts, spotlighting
opportunities that drive innovation, address global challenges, and support sustainability. The
strategies outlined aim to enhance public health, advance technology, stimulate economic
growth, and promote environmental sustainability. By capitalizing on these opportunities,
societies can adapt to evolving circumstances, strengthen resilience, and ensure a thriving future

The ‘Global 50’ report, published annually by DFF, highlights 50 opportunities for growth and

Contributors to this edition include Dr. Ameena Al-Sumaiti, Associate Professor at Khalifa

women from various nationalities, all proudly driving in their Abayas. This year’s rally stood out for its sense of community and collective strength. The Club Circuit buzzed with the energy of determined women, each making their mark on the track. Adding to the thrill was a newly introduced drift passenger experience, providing an adrenaline-filled adventure that perfectly complemented the rally’s empowering atmosphere. The rally, which highlighted the participants’ commitment to progress and a sustainable future, featured an impressive range of vehicles, from sleek supercars and sports cars to 4x4s
and superbikes. The event was more than just a drive; it was a powerful statement of empowerment, as women proudly displayed their skills and commitment to shattering barriers. ZEEKR X, the premium electric compact SUV, took the spotlight as the flagship vehicle of the Abaya Rally, dedicated to celebrating and empowering women.
