ABU DHABI, 9th February, 2023 (WAM) — MAKTABA, the Library Management Department of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), is organising 100 events, symposiums and workshops throughout February to mark UAE Innovation Month (UAE Innovates 2023).
MAKTABA’s activities aim to equip participants, particularly youth and students, with knowledge and tools that will enhance their ability to adopt innovation as a work and life skill. The programme covers a wide range of areas including technology, science, programming, robotics, and artificial intelligence.
Shaikha Al Mehairi, Library Management Department Director, Culture Sector at DCT Abu Dhabi, said, “The UAE recognises innovation as a cornerstone of development, and UAE Innovation Month is another bridge by which MAKTABA can offer various programmes to unleash participants’ creativity, refine their innovative capabilities, and develop their critical and analytical thinking skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).”
Fatima Al Tamimi, Branches Library Section Head, Library Management Department of Culture Sector at DCT Abu Dhabi, said, “Knowledge is the main driver of innovation. As such, we are keen to turn MAKTABA branches into gateways to knowledge and contribute to spreading innovative thinking among school students. We are constantly designing programmes to uplift the skills and creativity of tomorrow’s generation.”
As part of MAKTABA’s programme during the UAE Innovates 2023, Al Wathba Library will host “The Emirati Inventor Exhibition”, which aims to showcase ideas put forward by the country’s youth, and highlight the UAE’s efforts to develop a culture of innovation, both socially and economically.
With climate change being a topic of global concern, MAKTABA will hold the session “The Role of Innovation in Combatting Climate Change” on 15 February. The event will cover the key trends and negative repercussions of climate change, the UAE's response to this issue – including the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative – and the added value of innovation in addressing climate change.
All MAKTABA branches (Al Bahia Library, Al Marfa Library, Al Wathba Library, Khalifa Park Library, and Zayed Central Library), will host evening progressive learning programmes, along with periodic workshops and seminars covering 23 topics. These include, but are not limited to, shape designing, 3D printing, aircraft flight mechanics, car manufacturing, prostheses making, building smart water irrigation systems, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
