CAIRO, 7th February, 2023 (WAM) — The Muslim Council of Elders (MCE) has concluded its participation at the Cairo International Book Fair 2023, which included exhibiting various publications and hosting a number of seminars and lectures.
A number of prominent scholars from Al-Azhar as well as intellectual and academic personalities, university professors, and members from the Emerging Peacemakers Forum (EPF), took part in the 12 seminars hosted by the Council.
Most notable seminars were; ‘Academic Integration in Islamic Society’, ‘Sunnah in Islamic Legislation’, ‘Renewal of Religious Discourse’, ‘Atheism and its Dangers to Society’, ‘Islamic Heritage: Methods of Reading and Understanding’, ‘A step towards promoting Human Fraternity’ as well as a number of workshops by the EPF.
The MCE’s stand also unveiled a number of new books as part of the council's ongoing performance of its civilized and cultural mission. These works addressed monotheism, belief, logic and contemporary thought, as well as religious tolerance in various religions and the struggle against Islamophobia.
Most noteworthy of these being; ‘From my Old Notebooks’ by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the MCE, and ’Basis of Understanding from Thought and Language’ by Dr. Mustapha Benhamza, member of the Higher Scientific Council of Al-Azhar and the MCE.
Likewise, the Council exhibited a collection of translated publications such as ‘Religious Tolerance in World Religions’ by Jacob Neusner and Bruce Chilton along ‘Countering Islamophobia in Europe’ by Ian Law, Amina Easat-Daas, Arzu Merali and S. Sayyid.
Many visitors engaged with the programme undertaken by the Council by exploring various publications, particularly those made available for the first time while expressing their satisfaction at the presence of the Council at the book fair
Also, the Council’s stand organised a series of events celebrating the International Day of Human Fraternity (4th February) which coincided with the anniversary of the 2019 signing of the Document on Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi.
The events featured a number of workshops, talks and competitions with participation of the general public and students from Al-Azhar and the EPF.
The fair ran from the 25th of January until the 6th of February at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre.
