ABU DHABI, 3rd February, 2022 (WAM) — Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has announced financial support for the family of the deceased Pakistani driver who lost his life in a Houthi attack on the company’s premises in Musaffah on 17th January.
Afzaal Mahmood, the Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE, announced this Thursday at a press conference at the Pakistan's Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
"They have undertaken to pay salary compensation to the family of the deceased. And they are planning to arrange jobs for the family members. The children of the deceased would be given educational support," Mahmood told a select group of journalists while narrating to them the things that unfolded after the Houthi terrorist attack at ADNOC's storage tanks in Mussaffah.
"On that day, we were desperate to know the details about the Pakistani who died and wounded in the attack. Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Managing Director and Group CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), personally called me and informed about the incident.
"When I reached the hospital, I learnt that Dr. Al Jaber has already met the injured and spoken to them, they both appreciated his gesture and concern for them.
"The dead body of the Pakistani was repatriated very quickly." Mamoor Khan was one of three men who died in the attack, which left six others injured including two Pakistani.
"We appreciate ADNOC, they value one of their team members who worked for them for years and we appreciate it," the Ambassador added.
He said that both the injured were discharged from the hospital after recovering from their injuries, thanking the government of the UAE for its support at every level.
The ambassador said that His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, himself conveyed condolences to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan when they spoke on phone.
Then H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in a phone call to Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, conveyed his condolences and sympathy. The Ambassador of the UAE in Pakistan also called on the Foreign Minister of Pakistan and conveyed condolences and assured the government of Pakistan of fullest support.
"Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan personally conveyed condolences to me, when we met at Pakistan Pavilion at Expo 2020," the Ambassador recalled the UAE's support on the loss of the Pakistani national in the incident. He also thanked Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State for his sympathies.
Mahmood thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and ADNOC for the support at the time of repatriation of the mortal remains as well as the welfare of two Pakistanis who were injured.
Ambassador Mahmood said Pakistan has always condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. "Unfortunately we have been the victim of terrorism, we know what it means, we always condemned terrorism."
When asked as country's top diplomat in the UAE, did he receive any frantic calls from the community members about their safety in the UAE on the face of these attacks, the Ambassador said, "Frankly speaking I did not receive any question from my community members asking about our safety.
"Pakistanis are visiting the UAE and we have very robust participation in the Expo 2020 Dubai. We are receiving the delegations in routine. The business goes on. Tomorrow I have a large trade-related business meeting. Life goes on and business as usual to me. People from Pakistan are coming to the UAE for tourism, for business. That is how a Pakistani in the UAE is feeling about."
