BEIJING, 26th May, 2023 (WAM) — Several cooperation agreements were signed between the Emirates News Agency (WAM) and leading Chinese media establishments and communication universities.
The agency also invited several officials from these institutions to join the second edition of the Global Media Congress.
The signings took place during the visit of a WAM delegation, headed by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, to various media and communication institutions in China, including the Shanghai Media Group (SMG), China Central Television, Communication University of Zhejiang, and Beijing Foreign Studies University.
A cooperation agreement with the People’s Daily newspaper, one of China’s largest newspapers, and two other agreements with “Economic Daily” and the Global Times newspapers were also signed during the visit.
The WAM team learnt about the work of these establishments, the media services they offer and the potential for joint cooperation in news sharing, and invited them to attend the second Global Media Congress in Abu Dhabi.
The delegation also discussed the outcomes of the first Global Media Congress, the plans for the second edition and the media’s role in raising environmental awareness, especially before the UAE’s hosting of COP28 at Expo City Dubai.
Shen Haixiong, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and president China Media Group (CMG), welcomed Al Rayssi to China Central Television’s headquarters.
Al Rayssi said that the two sides talked about the outcomes of the first Global Media Congress that took place in Abu Dhabi last year, noting that he asked the Chinese media to join the next edition of the event, which will be a great opportunity to promote news sharing between media outlets.
As part of its plan to establish a wide international relations network with media agencies, WAM is keen to boost its partnerships with media establishments in China, he added.
While visiting some of China’s top universities, Al Rayssi encouraged their students to join the Global Media Congress, a unique event that brings together media and communication students to learn about future skills and new media trends and hosts several workshops on related topics.
Media and academic representatives from China expressed their appreciation for the cooperation with WAM and highlighted the need to promote media and news exchange between the UAE and China.
