Saudi Arabia reports 744 new COVID-19 cases

RIYADH, 30th December, 2021 (WAM) — Saudi Arabia reported 744 new COVID-19 cases, 231 recoveries and one related death during the past 24 hours, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The news agency has quoted the Ministry of Health as saying that the total number of confirmed cases now stands at 554,665 and the total recoveries at 541,388, while fatalities rose to 8,874.

Saif bin Zayed attends graduation of 2021 class of Aqdar Diploma programme at Expo 2020 Dubai

DUBAI, 25th January, 2022 (WAM) — H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, attended today the graduation ceremony of 150 participants from Empowering Future Leaders Initiative, launched in cooperation with the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

At the ceremony, which took place at Expo 2020 Dubai, 50 cadets of the Aqdar Diploma Program for Community Leaders, 2nd edition, were graduated in cooperation with the University of Sharjah within the initiatives of Khalifa Empowerment Program (Aqdar).

The program aims to empower youth and supporting community work to achieve the vision of the UAE's wise leadership.

Sheikh Saif praised the efforts of the graduates and congratulated them for their work and giving which contributes to highlighting the role of Emirati youth in sustainable development and shaping a brighter future.

The ceremony was attended by Maj. Gen. Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Maj. Gen. Duncan Francis Capps, Commander of the British Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Humaid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of the Office of HH the Minister of Interior, and Prof. Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, President of the University Sharjah, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Dabal, CEO of the Khalifa Empowerment Program, and Dr. Radi Al-Zubaidi, Director of the Institute of Continuing Education and Professional Development at the University of Sharjah, as well as directors of police colleges, institutes and academies in the country, and a number of Ministry of Interior officers.

UAE President confers Medal of Independence on Ambassador of Mexico

ABU DHABI, 25th January, 2022 (WAM) — President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has conferred the Medal of Independence of the First Order on Francesca Elisabeth Mendes Escobar, Ambassador of Mexico to the UAE, in recognition of her contributions to enhancing UAE-Mexico relations in various fields.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, presented the medal to the Mexican Ambassador during their meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Abdullah wished the Ambassador further success in performing her duties, and commended her role in boosting the bilateral relations between the UAE and Mexico.

For his part, Escobar expressed her thanks and appreciation to the UAE President, praising his wise leadership approach. She also thanked all the UAE government entities for the cooperation they showed her, commending their role in strengthening relations between their countries.

Mohamed bin Zayed meets with President of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region

ABU DHABI, 25th January, 2022 (WAM) — His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has met with Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

During the meeting held at Qasr Al Bahr, Sheikh Mohamed and Barzani discussed the cooperation and relations between the UAE and Iraq, particularly the Kurdistan Region, across various economic, investment, development and humanitarian fields.

They also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East and efforts to achieve peace, stability and prosperity for its peoples towards a better future founded on cooperation and coexistence.

Barzani expressed his condemnation of the terrorist attack carried out by the Houthi militia on civil areas and facilities in the UAE, and said that it is a serious violation of international laws and norms and a grave threat to regional security.

He also emphasised the importance of aligning international stances to put a stop to this militia and any other terrorist groups and their supporters.
