Circ Reports a Phenomenal Start in Abu Dhabi with 500,000km Travelled on E-Scooters in 2019 and Zero Reported Injuries

News Of Emirates – Circ, the micro-mobility champion that took the UAE by storm in July 2019, has revealed that riders have travelled over 500,000km on Circ e-scooters over the company’s first 150 days of operation in Abu Dhabi. The traction in the UAE capital is one of the highest for the company worldwide, with the distance travelled on its fleet equating to riding around the world 12 times over.

With Abu Dhabi as the pioneer of micro mobility in the region and under the guidance of the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), Circ is contributing to Abu Dhabi’s smart city initiatives around sustainability, innovation and efficient transportation solutions.

Having the largest fleet of electric vehicles in the Middle East, Circ has made a large investment to support Abu Dhabi’s Environmental Vision 2030: Circ rides to-date have eliminated 114 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) that would have been generated by cars and other vehicles.

As a sign of its broad adoption across the Emirate, Circ has enabled more than 250,000 rides for over 50,000 unique riders. The service has addressed a variety of use cases showing promising signs that people are willing to substitute the car for short distance trips. It starts with leisure rides to explore Abu Dhabi, closely followed by personal errands and then either first-mile / last-mile or office commutes.

Jaideep Dhanoa, Circ MENA Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, says: “Circ’s purpose-built e-scooters have received extraordinary customer feedback since we began operation in July, which is a testament to the safe, efficient and environmentally friendly mode of transport that we’ve providing to the city.  As the number one most-downloaded travel application on the UAE iOS App Store and Google Play Store, we’ve successfully embedded micro-mobility into the daily lives of Abu Dhabi residents and visitors. The city’s adoption of affordable micro-mobility transportation options is improving connectivity, facilitating local commerce, enabling access to opportunity, and alleviating traffic congestion and pollution.”

Bader Al Kalooti, Circ MENA Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer, says: “We’ve seen that half of our users (49%) are millennials between the ages of 26 and 35, and yet a large portion (16%) falls within the 40+ age bracket, which indicates that our e-scooters are having a positive impact on the community as a whole. We will therefore continue to lead and grow the market for micro-mobility through investing heavily in technology, operations and best in class hardware.”

Furthermore, Circ e-scooters were also effective in supporting Abu Dhabi’s mega cultural, touristic and sporting events.  This includes the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2019, which was the first event of its kind globally to be serviced by a micro-mobility operator as Circ launched its services on Yas Island ahead of the highly anticipated Race Weekend.  Through collaborative partnerships with leading real estate developers and community stakeholders across the capital city, Circ is currently operational in 13 communities.

With safety at the core of its operations, Circ has hosted 12 ‘Circ Safety Academy’ sessions since its inception, which serves to educate users about the safe and effective use of the e-scooters.  Going forward, Circ will continue to invest in educating users to adhere to safety precautions, such as driving safely only on cycle paths, wide sidewalks and minor roads, and where and how to park the e-scooters in a responsible way that doesn’t impair pedestrian access, roads or building entrances.  As part of its responsible approach, Circ also provides comprehensive insurance for all its e-scooter rides.

About Circ

Circ was created by a team with a shared vision of safer, cleaner, better-connected journeys. Founded at the end of 2018, the company’s purpose-built e-scooters are now available in 12 countries and enjoyed by hundreds of people every minute. Circ is building a champion for responsible micro-mobility in Europe and beyond, working with city authorities, local communities and other road users to transform urban transportation. Circ is the first regulator-approved e-scooter operator to launch in the Middle East, commencing operations in coordination with Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in the UAE capital in July 2019, with further expansion across the Middle East and North Africa planned for the coming months.

News Of Emirates – The World Customs Organization has recently applauded the advanced procedures and services Dubai Customs delivers to its clients.

Ricardo Treviño Chapa, Deputy Secretary General of the World Customs Organization stated in his recent visit to Dubai Customs that the Department plays a noticeable part in developing customs work globally.

The customs work system and methodology in Dubai Customs is a leading example that needs to be followed by other customs organizations in the world, he said.

Chapa cited Mirsal 2 as a successful system that deserves to be presented before international conferences so that other customs departments learn from it.

On the sidelines of the WCO Global Communication Strategies Conference which concluded in Brussels, Belgium on 9 October 2019, WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya said hosting the 5th edition of the WCO Global AEO Conference will take place in Dubai  from 10 to 12 March 2020 is an indication of the world-class level that Dubai Customs reached in all aspects.

The World Customs Organization has also confirmed in its Columbus Program that Dubai Customs enjoys a full-integrated strategy and a clear vision enriched with numerous smart initiatives. This has encouraged the WCO experts to consider Dubai Customs as a role model locally, regionally and globally.

In its report, the WCO stated that Dubai Customs works seriously in line with the WCO vision of supporting legitimate trade and securing borders.

Through its magazine, the WCO has highlighted the major role played by Dubai Customs in advancing the customs field, citing some impressive projects including the Virtual Corridor, Ideclare and the launch of the Authorized Economic Operator.

Dubai Customs announced major upgrades on its smart risk engine which raise predicative capabilities by 80%. The AI Predictive Risk Engine uses machine learning algorithms into customs vertical systems to improve time spent by Dubai Customs executing legitimate declarations by implementing modules in risk prediction, fraud detection, valuation price assessment, HS CODE Classification, and exception automation.

Dubai Customs developed a number of programs and applications that facilitated work and reduced the time needed by clients to clear their shipments. These include Mirsal 2, Smart Risk Engine, and Smart Workspace Platform. Thousands of spectators, including international tourists, witnessed the 13-minute long fireworks that also reached billions of people through live feeds online and telecasts by global television networks.

Defining Ras Al Khaimah as the ‘Tourism Capital of the GCC,’ the event clinched the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ titles for the ‘Most Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Launching Fireworks Simultaneously’ and the ‘Longest Fireworks Waterfall’. These take the number records set for fireworks hosted by Ras Al Khaimah to five in three years.

The first record was for the captivating firework display using 173 PyroDronesTM simultaneously. The record for the ‘Longest Fireworks Waterfall’ at 3,788.86 metres trumped the existing one set in Fukuoka, Japan, which was for a length of 3,517.23 metres. The fireworks, each at least 28 cm long and 3 cm in diameter, created a spellbinding effect on the audience.

Crowds thronged the main venue of Al Marjan Island, the flagship lifestyle development by Marjan, the master-developer of Ras Al Khaimah, from early in the evening as well as at viewing decks along Al Hamra. For the first time, Ras Al Khaimah also hosted a New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner headlined by multi-Platinum singer, songwriter, and fashion icon, Najwa Karam, and celebrity singer Waleed Al Shami.
