News Of Emirates – Peru, one of the world’s fastest-growing Latin American nations, is all set to expand its exports of a wide range of goods to the Sultanate of Oman, a move that is aligned with the growing Peruvian exports to the wider Middle East region. Oman is one of the top priority destinations of Peru’s latest export master plan.
Driven by agricultural goods, Peruvian exports to Oman recorded a significant growth during the first seven months of 2019 when compared to the same period of the previous year. Peru exported USD 11 million worth of total goods to Oman in comparison to USD 6 million worth goods in 2018. The overall exports to Oman from Peru stood at USD 8 million in 2018, according to statistics from Peru Trade.
The major goods imported from Peru to Oman includes powder milk, Peruvian premium coal anthracite, fresh fruits, veterinary medicines, antibiotics, mangos, safety glass, valves and transport accessories.
The central location of Peru, the third largest nation in the South America, facilitates its access to markets in Asia and North America.
Commenting on the improved trade relations between Peru and the Oman, Mr. Alvaro Silva Santisteban, Director of the Trade, Tourism & Investment Office Peru in the UAE, said, “We have implemented a strong plan to intensify our efforts to stimulate exports to Oman. The relationship between Peru and the Sultanate continues to go from strength to strength. Exports from Peru to the Oman continued its growth breaking all earlier records within the same period. Oman has become a key market for Peruvian companies and trade”.
“Oman is the right market to focus the efforts of Peruvian companies for their exports. Peruvian exporters are planning to engage in an intense program of business diplomacy in the Middle Eastern countries with key focus on Oman,” he added
“In recent years, our traditional export markets have been concentrated within the Americas and Europe. However, after major efforts our trade has evolved and diversified both in products and services as well as in markets. Where a communicational process, both home and locally towards understanding the depth of the markets, was of essences. At first, it was a challenge to get involvement, but once the potential and an array of possibilities were interiorized companies were eager to enter”, Santisteban further said.
Peru is home to a section of Amazon rainforest and Machu Picchu, an ancient Incan city high in the Andes mountains. The country boasts of a great wealth of cultures and traditions with a history of more than 10,000 years. Peru is the third largest country in South America and one of the 20 largest in the world – its surface area covers more than the territories of Spain and France combined. Peru has an enormous range of landscapes due to its geographical conditions, which in turn give it a great diversity of natural resources.
Statistics show that tourism is one of the main sources of income for Peru. In 2017, Peru received over four million tourists and generated profits of more than USD 8 billion from hotels, restaurants, transport and other services, which represents 3.8 per cent of the GDP. More than 90 per cent of travelers who visit Peru feel satisfied and are happy to recommend the destination.
